Wadi es Sebua


Wadi es Sebua Temple is located on the east bank of Lake Nasser around 150 km from Aswan, it had a historical importance which is considering the second large Nubian temples after Abu Simbel Temple, was dedicated to god Amun, and also built by Ramses the second, Wadi El Sebua, this name mean in Arabic ‘Valley of the Lions, This temple like most of the other Nubian monuments have been rescued and relocated 4 km north from its original location to escape the rising water of Lake Nasser.

There is a large pylon at the entrance of the Temple, and then be witness with the amazement of open court yard then a hypostyle hall and then inner sanctuary, the walls of the temples covered with a layer of Plaster, This layer helped to preserve for posterity the original reliefs, There is also an interesting scene in the central niche of Wadi es-Sebua temple where two statues of Amun and Re-Horakhty which stood besides Ramesses II were hacked away by later Christian worshippers and replaced by an image of St. Peter.

Temple of Dakka is located on site at Wadi es sebou after flooded by water since the construction of High Dam, it built in collaborations with Ptolemy II and Agher Amon who was Nubian King, like most of the other Nubian monuments it was converted into a church during the Christian era, The temple's pylon is now separated from the remainder of the temple due to the missing enclosure walls of the open court, this temple's decorative theme was never competed. It too was moved to this location from its original site about 81 kilometers to the north.

Pyramid of Amenemhat I is located in Lisht at Fayoum, Amenemhat I was the founder of 12th Dynasty, it consider one of the most magnificent complex pyramids dated back to old kingdom, moreover it is known as the places of the appearance of Amenemhat I, be witness of the glory of this pyramid which discovered at 1882, the pyramid built from Mud Brick with an outer layer of limestone, the pyramid high around 55 m, with length of 83m and slop of 54 degrees.

Pyramid of Amenemhet I consists of 3 parts, first is underground part, then the north chapel which contains corridors, burials chamber but currently below the water table, on the east of the pyramid there is a temple which ruins refers to some decorations, reliefs during the rule of Senwosret I, The overall construction of the pyramid was poor and little of it remains today.

During the Ptolemaic period (332-30 BC), the temple was enlarged and the city enhanced.

Medinet Maid contains two temples and around ten Coptic churches date back to Roman era, The Ptolemaic parts of the temple comprise a paved processional way passing through an eight-columned kiosk leading to a portico and transverse vestibule. It has been suggested that the unusually good preservation of this temple complex, excavated by a team of archaeologists from the University of Milan in the 1930s, may have been due simply to its relative seclusion.

This village contains plenty of archaeological sites, it lies 9km south west Fayoum oasis, t has an ancient name of “Hat wa Aart” which means the footstep, Some archeologists were able to unearth some of the most wonderful portraits in Hawara, which are famous now for being called "the Portraits of the Fayoum". These are 146 portraits of different people drawn with paint and they date to the period from the 1st to the 3rd centuries AD.

El Lahun Pyramid is located in Fayoum, it was discovered through Lepsius expedition, it built by Senusert II, The pyramid core is composed of cross walls of limestone over knoll of rock; It was built of mud brick and was coated in limestone with a height of 48 meters and a base of 106 meters. Located 22 kilometers away from the southern city of Fayoum on a high hill of 12 meters height.

Scout around the most gleaming parts of the structure of el Lahun Pyramid, entrance corridor was too narrow for a large sarcophagus and the blocks used to line the burial chamber, some ruins of the mortuary temple of the pyramid are still remaining to the east of the pyramid.
